who am i?

Hey, I'm Carmen Chavez

since i was a kid i always loved art. it didn't matter if it was theater, drawing, painting, or creating stories, i was always creating. in middle school i got my first-ever camera and started filming anything and everything. with my neighbors, we used to create skits and post them to youtube which catapulted my passion for filmmaking.

my first job ever was managing the social media for my local haunted house where i created ads and started learning about marketing online. from there i was able to be the social media chair for almost every club i was in in high school which landed me the social media manager role for depaul's career center.

in college, i was part of a multitude of project all varying in different goals and skills. i can count that is was +50 projects ranging from short films, dance covers, and live tv events. i also was involved with chicago international fillm festival as their programming and marketing intern.

as a director, i've made over twelve projects, mainly experimental, and found my voice as a filmmaker. i find my work is intertwined with identity and self-discovery. pulling from the experiences of growing up half filipino and half white. i continue to work on women-led stories including my own.
